Custom Operating Systems with VCM Suite.
P01/P59 LS1 PCM Operating systems explained.

There are four different operating systems available to us as tuners for the P01/LS1 PCM. They all have a different intended purpose and when deciding, here are a few tips.

Navigate to the OS tab in your calibration. Pictured below:

We will then be presented with the following screen and selection. (Note: RTT is Real Time Tuning)

  1. Speed Density – Enhanced (RTT)
  2. Speed Density – 2 Bar (RTT)
  3. Speed Density – 3 Bar (RTT)
  4. 1 Bar MAF Enhanced (RTT)

Each have their own purpose and use in the real world. Let’s discuss them and their specific applications or uses.

  1. Speed Density – Enhanced (RTT) This is the most used code modification or custom operating system. Used for all naturally aspirated MAF-Less setups. This will allow you to remove the MAF and have a simple VE (Volumetric Efficiency) table.
  2. Speed Density – 2 Bar (RTT) Used for boosted applications. With manifold pressure up to 14 PSI.
  3. Speed Density – 3 Bar (RTT) Used for boosted applications. With manifold pressure above 14 PSI.
  4. 1 BAR MAF Enhanced (RTT) Used when Wanting to upgrade to the RTT function but still require the Mass Air Flow sensor.

Applying a Code Modification or Custom Operating system is quite straight forward and very similar between them all. Let’s go through them one-by-one.

  1. Speed Density – Enhanced (RTT) – Click on the “Apply Code Modification” button in the Speed Density – Enhanced button. You will be promoted to save the file with a new name, close the current file, open the new file, then complete a write entire. (A write entire must be done once a custom operating system has been applied – this only needs to happen once – to make sure the code mod has been applied to the ECU.)
  2. Once this code modification has been applied. Navigate to Engine Diag > DTC’s – locate the P0102 code and set this code to NO MIL LIGHT and make sure the SES enable is un-ticked.
  3. Make sure the first write to the ECU is a Write Entire and this completes the setup. You will now have a basic MAF-less/VE table to work with.

  1. Speed Density – 2 Bar & 3 Bar (RTT) – Click on the “Apply Code Modification” button.
  3. Make sure your MAP sensor Offset & Linear figures suits your 2 Bar MAP sensor.
  4. Make sure the first write to the ECU is a Write Entire and this completes the setup. You will now have a basic MAF-less/VE table to work with.

Notes:

  • RTT is not available to all operating systems.
  • P59 – VZ LS1 does not have room for RTT or 3 BAR OS, this will not be available to this family of ECU.
  • Do not forget that 2 and 3 Bar upgrades do not populate the VE table, they are provided with zero VE. You will need to populate this yourself.
  • If an ECU already has a custom OS and you wish to change it. You must revert back to the stock OS before you can proceed with a new one.
